Keeping Faith Alive at Home

September 6, 2018

The following is my weekly letter to the Bishop Chatard High School parent community. If you or someone you know are a parent that could benefit from the presentation, you are welcome to RSVP as well.

To all Bishop Chatard and North Deanery parents:

I am not normally one to aggressively promote a presentation that I am personally giving, but I’m going to make an exception. I’m making an exception because it is a topic that is critical to our young people. In an increasingly secular world, we need to keep faith alive and relevant – for ourselves, but more importantly for our children.

The presentation is called Keeping Faith Alive at Home and details are below. I will not be presenting on this topic as an expert – not by any means. What I will be presenting comes from a variety of experiences and sources:

  • My personal experience as a parent – what my wife and I did well, where we failed, and things we wish we had tried
  • Concerns expressed to me by so many parents over the years
  • Ideas from conferences I have attended and resources I have read
  • Ideas attendees from past presentations have offered

In the present climate of the Church, Catholics are being offered many excuses for leaving their faith behind. We must remember that we are the Church and our children are the future of the Church. As a Catholic school, we do our best to keep faith at the front and center of all we do. However, it is what happens at home that is most critical. The school’s role is to enhance the faith experience students are receiving at home.

Please read the details below and prayerfully consider joining us. Thank you!

Deacon Rick Wagner invites all BCHS parents and North Deanery grade school parents to “Keeping Faith Alive at Home”, an interactive parent session he will conduct on Wednesday, September 12, from 7:00-8:30 p.m. The session will be held in the Kyle Guyton Theatre (Room 102) at Bishop Chatard High School.

Parents are the primary educators of their children, particularly when it comes to faith. Our faith is not just something we “do” or “check off” on Sundays. This evening will focus on practical ways to bring faith into your home with the audience’s participation.

There is no cost to attend the event, but to help with planning we do ask that you RSVP by noon on Monday, September 10. You can RSVP by going to:
