Whoever has ears ought to hear. (Matthew 11:15)
The words above were spoken by Jesus at the end of a teaching. It is not the only time He used those words. In today’s language, Jesus would probably say something like, “This means you!” or “Got that?”
It was Jesus’ way of saying, “I’m not just talking to hear the sound of my voice – what I have said to you is important.”
It would be a good phrase to repeat anytime we are spending time reading scripture. What we have just read is not simply a good story or piece of literature. It is God’s vehicle to speak directly to us. It has meaning for us. Scripture offers us instructions and should guide our actions.
We can’t do the work if we don’t hear the instructions.
