John said to Jesus,
“Teacher, we saw someone driving out demons in your name,
and we tried to prevent him because he does not follow us.”
Jesus replied, “Do not prevent him.
There is no one who performs a mighty deed in my name
who can at the same time speak ill of me.
For whoever is not against us is for us.” (Mark 9:38-40)
From Liturgy Training Publications, Daily Prayer 2019:
When we hear this Gospel, do we think about how the people who do God’s work are sometimes gossiped about and criticized? We need to take care to build up the people who preach the Gospel and minister in our parishes and communities. Be cautious with your speech and also encourage others not to be judgmental about people who seek to do God’s will. Work against the demonic but affirm disciples working for the kingdom.
