Nor does the Father judge anyone,
but he has given all judgment to the Son,
so that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. (John 5:17-30)
The Lord tells us that He judges because He is the Son of Man. He is one of us, who has endured everything that we have endured. He knows what it is to be tempted. He knows what it is to suffer, just as we do. So, He is the one who is able to judge.
As God, He knows everything and He knows it perfectly. As man, He has experienced it all except sin. When we stand before Him, He is going to be merciful because of His humanity. Because He has experienced all the temptations and all the struggles, we can be guaranteed of the mercy of God.
Jesus tells us directly that He came into this world not to condemn the world, but to save the world. More than anything, what He wants is for us to be saved, for us to be in Heaven with Him.
