But the souls of the just are in the hand of God, and no torment shall touch them. They seemed, in the view of the foolish, to be dead; and their passing away was thought an affliction and their going forth from us, utter destruction. But they are in peace. (Wisdom 2:23-3:9)
What beautiful words we hear in today’s reading from the Book of Wisdom. These words can provide much comfort to those who have lost a loved one, or for someone whose death is imminent.
There is so much uncertainty as one nears death. Questions swirling in one’s head about the life he has led and whether or not eternal life will be granted to him.
The Book of Wisdom offers hope and paints a picture of a loving and protective God who wants us with Him, in His hand.
If we have done our best to live a just life guided by truth and reason, the end is not utter destruction, but rather, peace.
