It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you… (John 15:9-17)

When our kids were little, Carol and I used to tell them stories at bedtime. They especially loved stories about Carol and I falling in love, about our wedding, and about “choosing them” as our children.
We told them how we prayed to God and described the children we wanted and promised we would love them forever. We prayed and prayed for the special children God would choose for us. Low and behold, God answered our prayers!
Our kids would just beam when they heard they were picked out especially for their Mommy and Daddy. It was comforting for them to know that they were given to us not by chance, but out of love, with a promise to love and protect them forever.
Today’s Gospel reminds us that we were hand-picked by God to be His children…out of love with the promise to love us and protect us forever.
How awesome is that?
