Responsibility

February 3, 2021

Strive for peace with everyone, and for that holiness without which no one will see the Lord. See to it that no one be deprived of the grace of God, that no bitter root spring up and cause trouble, through which many may become defiled. (Hebrews 12:14-15)

The epistles are full of directives, how-to’s regarding personal attainment of the heavenly kingdom. And rightfully so; our goal should be eternal life.

In today’s Letter to the Hebrews, however, we are reminded that a primary responsibility of a Christian is to help others attain eternal life as well. The letter encourages a “no soldier left behind” mentality.

See to it that no one be deprived of the grace of God. How beautiful of a sentiment is that? What if everyone took that charge seriously? Embrace the grace of God that is all around us, AND ensure that others have the opportunity to embrace it as well.

Like it or not, we bear responsibility for our brothers and sisters.

Pray for the strength and resolve to accept that responsibility with love and compassion, with a joy-filled heart.
