Each day during Lent, I will be highlighting a Lenten Word (or phrase) of the Day from the readings of the day. I encourage you to reflect on this word or phrase throughout the day and incorporate it in your daily prayer.
Then you shall call, and the LORD will answer, you shall cry for help, and he will say: Here I am! (Isaiah 58:9)
HERE I AM: These are the words God offers us through the prophet Isaiah. I love these words – or variations of these words – because they are God’s response to everything I present to him, and there is comfort in that.
Me: I’m so scared; I need you right now!
God: Here I am.
Me: Where were you when I was going through that difficult time?
God: I was there!
Me: I am lost; I need direction in my life!
God: Here I am!
God’s words are particularly comforting during the penitential season of Lent. His words bring us hope and offer us a fresh start. We can, with confidence, go to him with whatever is on our heart: “I am broken” or “I seek forgiveness” or “I want to build and stronger relationship with you” or “I need to feel loved.”
His response will be the same: Here I am.
