Athirst is My Soul

March 8, 2021

Each day during Lent, I am highlighting a Lenten Word (or phrase) of the Day from the readings of the day. I encourage you to reflect on this word or phrase and incorporate it in your prayers today.

Athirst is my soul for the living God. (Psalm 42:2 – today’s Responsorial Psalm)

ATHIRST IS MY SOUL: Too often we thirst for temporal, worldly things.  What if we allowed our hearts to thirst for the things of God?

Here are some ideas: Thirst for truth and justice. Thirst for the unconditional love and compassionate mercy of God. Thirst for the fruits of the Holy Spirit. Thirst for the ability to live as Jesus lived. Thirst for the courage to follow God’s plan for our lives.

When we drink what the world has to offer, it may taste good for a short time. However, we will be thirsty again in a very short time. What God has to offer acts as living water; it quenches our thirst.

What do you thirst for? Does it truly satisfy you?
