Each day, I reflect upon a word or a phrase inspired by the readings of the day. I encourage you to do the same and perhaps incorporate that word or phrase into your daily prayer.
In every place your faith in God has gone forth… (1 Thessalonians 1:8)
IN EVERY PLACE: In today’s first reading, Paul praises the Thessalonian disciples for their upright behavior and adherence to the faith, writing, “In every place your faith in God has gone forth…”
The phrase “in every place” caused me to reflect on these questions:
- How do I live out my faith?
- Do I live one faith publicly and another in private?
The true test of our faith is how we conduct ourselves when no one is watching. It is easy to appear faithful when eyes are on us, saying and doing all the right things – “playing for the camera.”
What about when we are behind closed doors or out of the view of those closest to us? Do we hold strong to our faith? Or do we justify our sinfulness by saying, “Who’s going to know?”
God wants us to pack our faith and take it with us wherever we go – it should guide our actions at all times.
God promises to be with us ALWAYS. We show our gratitude by living out our faith “in every place.”
