Each day, I reflect upon a word or a phrase from the readings of the day. I encourage you to do the same and perhaps incorporate that word or phrase into your daily prayer.
My love shall never leave you nor my covenant of peace be shaken, says the LORD, who has mercy on you. (Isaiah 54:10)
MY LOVE SHALL NEVER LEAVE YOU: God, through his prophet Isaiah, sends us words of comfort: His love will never leave us. When we see those words in the first reading, do we skim over them? Are they just words on a page? Or do we truly take them into our heart and embrace them?
Our day-to-day lives throw so much at us that we are often left feeling overwhelmed, unloved, or undervalued; we feel alone. When those feelings enter our minds and hearts, we tend to forget that God’s love will never leave us; we simply need to tap into it. If our hearts are open, his love will pour in; his love is fully accessible at all times.
I am often asked, “How do you decide what to focus on or reflect on when you read scripture?” The words that jump out to me tend to be the ones I need to hear most at the time. I have been struggling recently, sometimes feeling alone in a crowd. Today I needed to be reminded that God’s love will never leave me.
I am a relatively normal guy, so I always assume that if certain words will re-focus me, direct me, or bring me comfort, they will likely do the same for others.
Knowing that God’s love will never leave me brings me comfort and hope; I hope that knowledge does the same for you.
